STUDENT FAQ

What version of ableton live do i need?

While there is 3 versions of Live we highly recommend to students that they own Ableton Live Suite. It is what we use in all of our classes and will ensure that you are able to follow along with the lessons and finish the homework you get assigned. As students at Beat Drop you are eligible to purchase the Educational version of Suite at a significant discount. This is the full version of Live Suite and can be upgraded down the road. To purchase a license go here. Currently all course content uses Live 9.5 or higher.

Do i need to do anything before my course starts?

No. 1-2 days before your course starts we will send you an email with an invitation to our online classroom and communication tool called Canvas. Here you will create an account and get access to your course(s). This is where all the video lessons will be hosted, along with assignments, discussion forums and dates for your 1on1 and group chats. There are some tutorial videos on using Canvas that can be found here.

Where do I log in and access the courses?

Where's my email from Canvas?

Make sure to check your junk mail. Sometimes your invitation does not end up in your inbox and gets filtered because its from an unknown address.

How much time should I budget in the week for my course?

We recommend 1.5-3 hours for watching video lessons, 1-3 hours for assignments/homework and 20min-1 hour for your online chats per week per class. Allow for 30 minutes per day to experiment with course concepts.
